I understand now why people are drawn to depravity.
To what is not good for them.
It is why dying flowers stay sat on my desk,
Tired eyes flit from side to side as birds twitter a countdown to morning,
Why I almost pray for a fire alarm to drag my feet downstairs with a lighter grabbed as second thought tucked in my pocket,
Why I wash hair for a taken man,
And wonder about forbidden fingers dancing on my skin
