A photo of my
hometown's July 4th
parade--in 1960.
I was almost six. Now
I'm white hair with a belly.
Firemen squirted us
from huge hoses.
Convertible girls tossed
us candy. The picture hides
the racism, the gay-hating.
Did we celebrate
just like always in 1968?
MLK. RFK. The parade
continues to this day.
We watch, return
to screens and games.
